Position: Social Media Intern
Summary
The Social Media Intern will support the museum's growing online social media footprint. The intern will be responsible for helping make posts on social sites, research and assist in online content development, assist with tracking social media analytics, and support with acquisition and social media integration at museum events. The intern will gain valuable experience working in a non-profit museum, and acquire hands on skills related to creating and sustaining an online social audience. Internship to last through at least one quarter or semester of work.
Learning Opportunities
The intern will learn about the processes and resources involved in developing and writing diverse museum online campaigns. He/she will meet and work with various museum staff, as well as have the opportunity to meet members of the local music, sci-fi, or popular culture online community.
This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in non-profit, arts based media programming. Interns will acquire hands on experience and get an inside view of varied museum exhibit and program offerings.
Suggested Activities (other duties may be assigned)
- Research content for social media posts related to EMP programs and exhibits
- Assist with integrating social media presence into museum exhibits and events
- Generate social media reports tracking adoption and use at EMP events
- Monitor social accounts and key word feeds for post/response opportunities
- Contribute to brainstorms on social media and integration into future EMP exhibits and programming events
Preferred Requirements + Special Skills
- Intern must currently be enrolled at a higher learning institution and able to receive credit for their internship
- Commitment to and enthusiasm for the mission of the EMP Museum—passion for music, science fiction and pop culture a plus!
- Knowledge and interest of social media practices in non-profits and the arts
- Familiar with current social sites including, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, Flickr, and Youtube
- Familiar with web analytics and ability to record and analyze metric data
- Ability to commit to five hours a week preferred, with some flexibility regarding terms and hours
- Proficiency using computers and MS Office Suite
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Organized, detail-oriented, a self-starter with the ability to multitask
- Ability to think creatively and come up with resourceful ideas and solutions
