MoPOP to Host Interactive Costume Designer Workshop Inspired by 'Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume' at Emerald City Comic Con
It's finally here! Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) takes place in Seattle this weekend, running Thursday, December 2 through Sunday, December 5 at the Washington State Convention Center, and you better believe the Museum of Pop Culture will be there to help celebrate the long-awaited return of the city's largest comic book and pop culture convention.
MoPOP, which proudly presents ECCC's "Family HQ," will have a presence inside those very headquarters all weekend long, hosting an interactive costume designer workshop inspired by one of the nonprofit organization's newest exhibitions: Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume.
Located on the Level 2 Lobby of the convention center, MoPOP invites ECCC'ers to design a look for their own hero, villain, or antihero (someone who usually does the right thing, but for their own reasons) using dress forms and select clothes and accessories from a rack. Visitors will also get to sketch their final creation, pose for fun photo ops with costume cutouts from the world of Disney, and have a chance to win a family membership to MoPOP. Plus, ECCC badge holders will receive an exclusive ticket discount to the museum.
Elsewhere at ECCC, MoPOP Senior Curator Brooks Peck will join a panel discussion from 3:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 2 titled From Panels to Frames: Comic Art in Museums. Peck will discuss Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume alongside related topics on museum exhibitions of comic art and objects related to popular culture. He'll be joined by fellow panelists Rob Salkowitz (Forbes IcV2), Kim A. Munson (Comic Art in Museums), Larry Reid (Fantagraphics Gallery), and Ellen Forney (cartoonist and Rock Steady Coach).
