Watch 'The Virgin Suicides' With MoPOP + Special Guest Hazel Cills!
For our "Grow Up!" film series, we're exploring adolescence in all its lusty, zitty, complicated glory. Through December 2020, we'll be celebrating movies from all over the genre map that show just how joyful and confounding being a teenager can be.
You're invited to join us at 6 p.m. PT this Saturday, November 7, as MoPOP Production Associate Kasi Gaarenstroom and special guest Hazel Cills lead an online watchalong and virtual discussion of The Virgin Suicides.

Hazel Cills is the pop culture reporter at Jezebel. Her writing has appeared in The Los Angeles Times, Pitchfork, ELLE, The New York Times Magazine, and more. She is based in Brooklyn and you can follow her on Twitter @hazelcills.
Here are a handful of program elements you can expect to see this Saturday, November 7 during our The Virgin Suicides watchalong:
- Pre-film introduction with MoPOP’s Kasi Gaarenstroom, who will share some of her favorite letterboxd reviews of the film, plus special guest Hazel Cills, who will discuss the film's unique use of music and how it showcases the tragedies of growing up (before joining, check out Hazel's story on director Sofia Coppola's use of music in film!)
- Cocktail and mocktail pairings, including but not limited to peach schnapps straight from the bottle!
- Chat with Kasi, Hazel, and other fans during the film
- Post-film discussion on how The Virgin Suicides exemplifies the complexities of growing up!
As with all of our virtual watchalongs, to participate you'll need to register in advance, and then on event day make sure you have a copy of the film queued up and ready to watch on your end while keeping an eye on your e-mail inbox for a link to join our online discussion.
