As part of our celebration honoring 20 years of the Museum of Pop Culture, we'll take time throughout 2020 to get to know some of MoPOP's most dedicated visitors and supporters.

MoPOP members receive some pretty cool perks, but perhaps more importantly, each member's continued support of our nonprofit museum helps fund our world-class exhibitions and community programming. This month we hear from Myles + Hannah Marcus, who are two of many aiding MoPOP's mission of making creative expression a life-changing force.

What makes MoPOP special to you?

Myles Marcus: "I think what attracted me to MoPOP initially was the music because I grew up loving music and then when I actually interviewed to volunteer here and actually started volunteering, I realize it's so much more than music with all of the pop culture. I just love the way the exhibits keep changing in terms of just how it connects to the community. It's really both the community locally in Seattle and what we do here to get the kids involved in terms of music, art, theater, etc., as well as how we've attracted a worldwide audience in both our architecture that attracts people initially and they come in here and they're just wowed by all the exhibits and the special hands-on experiential items that they can play with here to really bring pop culture home to them. Then hopefully, it gets their creative juices flowing so they can contribute in the future."

Hannah Marcus: "Well, MoPOP is mind-expanding. We are new grandparents and MoPOP gives future generations an opportunity to continue the legacy of many musicians. We are excited to be part of that."

Myles Marcus: "And we just can't wait until our grandchild is old enough to come here and really appreciate it. He's only one year old right now, but we're figuring in maybe a year, couple years."

Hannah Marcus: "Yeah, we want to include him in the future activities as well."

Is there any particular artifact or exhibition that you're attracted to at MoPOP?

Hannah Marcus: "I like Sound Lab because there's no judgment. I was in there last time I was here and I was making music and it sounded OK to me, but nobody was standing around going, 'Oh, really?' or no one to say it was good or bad. It gave me a chance to express myself in a way that I'd never done before. That was actually the first time I had done that type of music and it was really enjoyable. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was very cool."

Myles Marcus: "What I really enjoy is going into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame or into Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic, where you've got the hands-on computer screens where you can actually answer a few questions. In the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame, it always points me to a new author depending upon how I answer the questions, or in the fantasy gallery where I answered the questions and it tells me what type of fantasy archetype I would be; I always hope for the wise wizard archetype, but I typically end up as the comic sidekick."
